Thomas stands outside wearing full camouflage and a helmetThomas enlisted in the Army in 1997 as an aviation maintenance technician working on the AH-64 Apache helicopter with duty stations in Korea and Germany. After progressing to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he had the opportunity to complete his undergraduate degree and received his commission as an officer through the University of Pittsburgh ROTC Program.

After selecting the Infantry as his career option, Thomas attended basic officer training at Fort Benning, GA with follow on assignments at Fort Stewart, GA, a second duty at Fort Benning, Fort Lewis, WA, and Portsmouth Naval Base, NH. Over the course of those 10 years of service, he deployed multiple times in support of both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Thomas was injured during his final tour in Afghanistan and was medically retired in October 2014 following almost 18 years of active duty service in the U.S. Army.

Thomas has been married to his wife, Angela since 2004 and has three stepsons, Monty, Sebastian, and Orion. They have made their final residence in the greater Seattle, WA since retirement.

Through Warriors to Summits, Thomas is seeking some direction and purpose that has been absent since his separation from the military. He has attempted to hold a few odd jobs and even started his own business with little motivation and lack of enjoyment. He hopes that the opportunity to interact with other veterans and directly challenge himself will assist him with taking control of his life and rebuilding lost confidence. Thomas has been shouldering much guilt and regret following his time in service and would like to rediscover himself and save his family.
