2017 Expedition

Branch of Service: United States Marine Corps

State: Florida

Born in Macomb, Illinois, Paul moved to Purcell, Oklahoma when he was twelve years old. Growing up he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and shooting. After high school, he went to college but when the Gulf War started he decided to join the Marine Corps.

After serving for four years, Paul was honorably discharged. Paul later re-joined the Marine Corps and was deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. After his return from Afghanistan, he spent nine months at the Balboa Navy Hospital in San Diego, California in the Wounded Warriors Battalion. From there, Paul moved with his family to Boca Raton, Florida. Medically retired from the Marine Corps, he enjoys working on his car and Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Having the six TBIs and PTSD after three combat deployments was crippling, yet Paul says it was losing friends, comrades and his best friend, that led him to realize that he had to decide to live or die. He chose life and is ready for the next step in his life. Through the Warriors to Summits, Paul is ready to tackle his own barriers, now more emotional than physical, and is also looking to share experiences with other veterans. Paul believes this experience will move him further along the path of healing.
