Nick sits in full camouflage gear, no helmetNickolas began his military service in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in August 2000. After a deployment to Bosnia in support of SFOR 12 and completing his contract, he transitioned to active duty Army. His assigned unit (Able company 3/509th ABN) at Fort Richardson, Alaska was already deployed to Iraq, so he joined them a few months into their tour. He spent his deployment in Fallujah and the Babel Province, where he served as an infantry team leader. A little over a year later, Nickolas was deployed to Paktika Province in Eastern Afghanistan. Although still in the infantry, he assisted unit leaders in planning and executing development efforts for the local population. His next duty station was Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he completed the Arabic language course. Following that, he was assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he served as an advisor to deploying units. Finally, Nickolas separated from the Army in July 2013.

Nickolas and his wife, Nicole, have been married since January 2008. They have one daughter, Paige, and their second child is due in September. He resides in Spring Brook Township, PA, which is in the northeastern part of the state.

The biggest thing Nickolas hopes to get out of the Warriors to Summits expedition is to be challenged, overcome it, and regain passion for life. Since returning from deployment, things seem somewhat boring for him and he hopes to be reminded that there are other ways that life can be exciting.
