While in the Marines, he was stationed on Camp Lejeune, NC with 2nd Light Armored Recon Battalion. In 2004, he was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq and participated as a scout in Operation Al Fajr – the 2nd siege of Fallujah. While performing combat operations, Nick was injured twice; once by IED and another in a gas attack. He ended his service with the Marine Corps in 2006 and returned home to Akron, OH.

Since returning, Nick graduated from the University of Akron with a B.S.E., concentrating on physical education and health. He has worked as a physical education teacher at a juvenile jail, a private school and has been a youth minister. Currently, he is completing a fellowship with The Mission Continues through his local YMCA.

Nick has a wife and four children; Brenna, 12, Nicholas Jr., 4, Benjamin, 3, and Isaac, 1. His wife is currently in school to earn a B.S. in Psychology and hopes to work as a counselor for families who suffer from PTSD. His family is the most important thing to Nick, and are what drive him to try and be better every day.

Through Warriors to Summits, Nick hopes to help himself defeat his PTSD symptoms so that he can mold himself into a person he can be proud of. Ideally, he would like to gain self-esteem and self-efficacy to help him achieve more in life. The expedition will allow him to break away from normal life for a short time with a supportive group to help him grow and to help him gain what he needs to be a role model.
