2017 Expedition

Branch of Service: United States Army

State: Iowa

Born in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Eric has lived most of his childhood life on and off a farm. After high school, Eric joined the Army and deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, serving for eleven years. After being stationed in Alaska, Eric fell in love with the mountains and knew he had a strong connection to the outdoors that he would carry through his life.

After being honorably discharged in 2012, Eric volunteers with a local Boy Scout troop — mentoring scouts to help them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Eric is employed by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and still has a deep passion for nature, animals, and community service.

Eric hopes that Warriors to Summits will help him open up to others and regain a sense of camaraderie. Living quite far from the nearest active duty base and living thousands of miles from most of his soldiers, Eric feels a loss of belonging. Not having that daily connection that builds the bonds between brothers, Eric is extremely excited for the opportunity to experience the feeling of brotherhood again, and this means more to him than winning the lottery.
